Shazia Mahmood is a graduate of the Winchester School of art (1993-1999) and has painted dramatic, colourful landscapes focussing on mountain ranges all over the world from New Zealand to the Swiss Alps. Recently her inspiration has been concentrated on the dramatic landscapes of Scotland. Citing Elgol, Oldshoremore, Assynt, Isle of Skye and the whole of the West coast as her favourite parts. She visits twice a year to sketch and photograph the rugged landscape in differing lights and weather conditions.
Based out of her home studio in Sussex, Shazia has developed a technique of painting similar to chromatography. By layering specific quantities of PVA on the canvas which causes a reaction with the inks, drawing out certain colours as the dyes react.
Shazia is represented in galleries throughout Scotland and parts of England. We are pleased to now be exhibiting her work at Ytene Gallery.
