Jan Nelson

Jan Nelson

Jan Nelson was born in Glasgow in 1956 and brought up on the east coast of Scotland. She is a self taught artist who studied for three years through the Open College of the Arts at Leith School of Art in Edinburgh and has been painting for 20 years on a part time basis, earning a living in the world of commerce until she took up painting full time in 2008.

Jan is now happily painting from her studio on the West Coast of Scotland where work is informed by her deep love of sailing. Whether you are a sailor or not, Jan's passion for the sport is obvious from her painting, which captures the tremendous movement, thrills and glorious colours of sailing both in a scenic and racing sense. Ytene Gallery has worked with Jan since opening, and shows her work in mixed shows all year round.
